Today, the Solo Cup Company began construction of its new facility on the site that accommodated US Steels’, South Works, in Chicago.
The $100 million manufacturing facility will allow Solo Cup to increase its production of paper and plastic-based food packaging products. Once completed, the facility will create 1000 jobs, of which 450 will be new positions.
The new plant is due to start production in 2004. Two nearby existing operations will also be relocated to the new premises after this time.
