The Buehler Microstructure of Materials calendar is a recognized forum for excellence in this unique area of technical expertise. Publication in the calendar is open to anyone who has achieved a level of excellence in materials preparation. We encourage you to submit an entry for the 2013 edition, adhering to the following guidelines.
GUIDELINES
SUBJECT OF IMAGES:
- Microstructural details of any metallic, non-metallic, geological or bio-related materials
- Images must be obtained by light optical microscopy (no SEM or TEM)
- Images must not be digitally colored or enhanced
REQUIRED INFORMATION:
- Brief title statement that details the material depicted in the image
- The original magnification used to acquire the image
- The illumination mode used, such as brightfield, darkfield, polarized light, reflected or transmitted, differential interference contrast (DIC), phase contrast, or any other relevant information concerning the illumination and observation methods
- Details of any etchants used to reveal the microstructure, including the chemical formulation where applicable
- Contact information
IMAGE REQUIREMENTS (Images not meeting the requirements cannot be accepted)
- The entry must be uniformly illuminated and exhibit sharp, crisp, in-focus details
- The image cannot have a scale-bar
- Digital files must be at least 3900 pixels x 2700 pixels [~13in x 9in] at 300 DPI (preferred submission method is digital images)
- 4in x 5in color transparencies are alsoacceptable for submission
- 8in x 10in [200 x 250mm] up to 11in x 14in [275 x 350mm] color prints are also acceptable for submission
SEND MATERIALS BY TRADITIONAL MAIL:
- Please place CD/DVD, prints, or transparencies in a flat pack, padded envelope to support image during shipping and send to the following address:

If your entry is published, you will receive an honorarium of $200 and the privilege of having your work exhibited and cited in Buhler's Microstructure of Materials calendar which is distributed globally each year. Images in the calendar entries become the sole property of Buehler and may be used in other publications.
