Innovative Plastics business of SABIC received Green Material Innovative Application Award from Plastics Technology (China), an influential plastics publication. This award was given in order to honor Valox iQ resin of the company.
Valox iQ resin integrates post-consumer up-cycled content from water bottles, made of polyethylene terephthalate (PET). This unique iQ resin technology platform has raised the company’s industrial standards for eco-friendly materials and to get rid of waste by a closed-loop reuse systems.
SABIC won the Green Material Innovative Application Award together with much other recognition in the tenth anniversary celebration of Plastics Technology (China). These awards honored the companies, which mainly helped in the success of the Chinese plastic industry.
Polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) polymers are used to manufacture the Valox iQ resin, which may include post-consumer content of up to 60%. SABIC consumes 67 PET half a liter water bottles per kg to manufacture Valox iQ resin, so that the carbon footprint can be minimized as much as 49%. Up-cycling of Valox iQ resins is done.
During the manufacturing process, this new resin material produces less CO2 and consumes low energy. Painting can be replaced by Valox iQ resin’s molded-in color ability. SABIC has closely worked with several customers in order to develop green products like Valox iQ resin for use in automotive components and transportation.
Leviton Manufacturing chose Valox iQ resin for use in the housing of Evr-Green electric vehicle (EV) cord set. Robinson Home Products uses this new resin material in its Green Street plastic kitchen utensils, wherein the resin offers excellent quality and performance.
Valox iQ 2205HV resin can be utilized in textiles as a additive in order to offer enhanced permanent stain resistance, consistent color, strength and to increase post-consumer recycle content.
