Teijin has declared that Teijin CNF Korea has commenced the manufacturing of LIELSORT, a new separator for use in lithium ion secondary batteries (LIBs). Teijin CNF Korea is an Asan-based joint venture established between CNF, a main film processor in Korea, and Teijin. LIELSORT was developed by Teijin.
LIELSORT separators are available in two types. At first, Teijin CNF Korea will manufacture one separator coated with a compound containing fluorine. This compound provides exceptional adhesion to the polymer electrolyte and has the ability to withstand oxidation. Therefore, LIBs can potentially deliver higher output and at the same time help maintain constant high voltage.
Additionally, Teijin intends to manufacture the second separator at the earliest. This product will be coated with Teijinconex meta-aramid and will be able to withstand heat.
Teijin Electronics Korea, a wholly owned subsidiary of Teijin in Seoul, has been formed to commercialize these two types of LIELSORT separators. This network of manufacturing and commercialization will help the company to enter into the Chinese market.
Teijin applied its polymeric chemistry knowledge in order to develop an advanced technology for coating the two sides of the LIELSORT separators simultaneously. A high-speed coating technology, whose speed is five times faster than traditional coating, was developed. The company’s technologies promote production that is highly efficient.
The company will strive to expand the market for the LIELSORT separators for LIBs applications and will also work to make these separators as the de facto standard for advanced LIBs.
