Vishay Precision Group (VPG) has launched a new high precision Z-foil chip resistor with low temperature co-efficient of resistance. Labeled as VCS1610Z, the surface mount resistor is available with tin/lead or lead free gold terminal options.
The TCR is low at 0.2 ppm/°C under temperatures ranging from -55°C to +125°C accompanied by tolerance of 0.5%. This is attributed to the use of Z-foil technology. The load-stability under 2000 hours of rated power at temperature of 70°C is 0.015%. The resistor is suited for current sensing in exceptional environmental conditions typical of radiation-rich and high temperature environments of deep-sea repeaters, well logging and oil explorations. Here, the resistors operate with TCR of 5ppm and Kelvin configuration of four terminals to enhance accuracy.
The resistance offered is in the range of 0.3 to 10 Ω. Resistance in this range at any tolerance is available at zero additional cost. The device offers 0.25 W power rating at +70°C and is characterized by thermal stabilization measuring less than a second. Rise time of the resistor is 1 ns and is virtually free of ringing. The short time overload is lower than 0.005%. The device features voltage coefficient that is less than 0.1 ppm/V. Noise is limited to 0.010 µV rms/V of applied voltage.
The non-inductive and non-capacitive design of the VC1610Z is built to withstand electrostatic discharges (ESD) up to 25 kV. The major advantage of the device is that the shift in resistance is only minimal and this shift occurs during the first few hundred hours of operation thereby ensuring change free operation thereafter.
