Preferred Sands, a supplier of coated proppants and frac sand in North America, has launched its first line of clean resin-coated proppant.
Labeled as Preferred RCS, the proppant is in full production. The launch of the Preferred RCS line is the company’s solution to the problem of frac water contamination and the associated environmental issues. The environmental issues are further aggravated in water wells by the common use of phenolic resins that are partially curable. The additive resins leach chemicals including formaldehyde and the concentration reaches up to five times the limit mandated for drinking water.
The Preferred RCS proppants release less volatile organic compounds (VOC) in the production process. This translates into diminished chemical leaching and dusting which in turn reduces the impact on the environment. The Preferred RCS proppant line comprises products of both low and intermediate temperature cures. The line also has several other products in the final stage of development.
Robert McDaniel, Technology Director at Preferred Sands, stated that the company’s goal was to be innovative and creative in offering customers solutions not available anywhere else.
Headquartered in Radnor, Pennsylvania, Preferred Sands caters to the frac sand market with resin coated proppants and frac sands.
