3M Launches Spray Adhesive for Seaming Geotextile Fabrics

3M, the company leveraging technology to produce innovative products, has launched a cylinder spray adhesive for seaming geotextile fabrics known as the 3M Geotextile Seaming Cylinder Spray Adhesive.

The product is suitable for geotextile fabrics employed for soil separation, erosion control and subgrade stabilization applications. The adhesive is of construction grade and features a wide-web spray pattern suitable for sticking geotextile fabrics.

The seam strength enabled by the 3M Geotextile Seaming Cylinder Spray Adhesive is superior to the strength of fabrics employed in the construction industry owing to the permanent bond it creates. It scores high on operability as it is packaged in cylinders that are pre-pressurized and equipped with a sprayer. The adhesive offers time savings of 56% vis-à-vis sewing as workers simply have to spray the adhesive on the fabrics being bonded and apply pressure at the seams. The drying time of the adhesive is also less. The bond forged by the adhesive has been demonstrated to meet the M288-06 requirements for seam efficiency mandated by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO).

Apart from its strength and the benefit of time savings, other advantages of the adhesive are savings in labor and materials facilitated by the elimination of costly sewing machines and subsequent effort and cost on maintenance and repair of the machines.

With $30 billion in sales, 3M employs 84,000 people across the globe and has operations in over 65 countries.
