Momentive Specialty Chemicals has revealed its plan to construct a new production facility for coating resins at Chonburi in Thailand.
The new addition will enhance the company’s capability to cater to customers in Southeast Asia by augmenting its capacity to produce acrylic-based resins. When the new plant commences operation, the capacity of Momentive Specialty Chemicals to produce acrylic-based resins will triple.
The new facility will be located at the site purchased by Momentive Specialty Chemicals in the Pinthong Industrial Estate Park. The extensive range of acrylic resins that the new plant will manufacture has applications in adhesives, coatings and other applications in building and construction. The new operations site will also house the laboratories for product development and applications along with the units catering to application support and technical service for the company’s customers.
Construction of the new plant is progressing. The facility is expected to begin operations in the first half of the year 2013. Once the facility is fully operational, 30 employees will be engaged in the plant. Momentive Specialty Chemicals currently operates a smaller resin manufacture plant in Thailand on a leased property at Samutsakorn. This facility will be shut down once operations commence at the new plant under construction. The sales and administrative functions of the company will continue to operate out of the existing offices at Bangkok.
Julia Harp, Senior Vice President at Momentive Specialty Chemicals, stated that the new resin manufacturing facility validates the company’s commitment to the customers in the Southeast Asian region and is the subsequent step in their global growth plan.
