Dow Corning, a global leader in silicone and silicon-based technology, announced on the 29th that it is among the newest member organizations of the European Center for Power Electronics e.V. (ECPE).
The announcement signals expanded opportunities for both organizations to pool expertise in advanced power electronics technologies behind important technologies as electric vehicles, renewable energy, smart grid and higher-performing mobile electronics address key megatrends.
Founded in 2003, ECPE is an industry-driven research network promoting the development of power electronics in Europe. ECPE's growing membership network now includes 68 companies from 12 countries, and spans the entire power electronics value chain from materials and components to systems and applications. The network also leverages the resources of 65 top universities and research institutes from 17 countries across Europe, which serve as ECPE's competence centers.
"As one of the global pioneers in high-crystal-quality 150-mm silicon carbide wafers and other industry leading power electronics technologies, Dow Corning brings invaluable expertise to ECPE's network of innovators," said Leo Lorenz, president of ECPE e.V. "We look forward to collaborating closely with our new partner as ECPE drives the next stage of precompetitive joint research for Europe's power electronics industry."
With Dow Corning's new membership, ECPE gains the collaborative expertise of an established, highly credible industry leader in the development of next-generation silicon carbide (SiC) wafers and epitaxy, gallium-nitride-on-silicon epitaxial wafers and silicone-based materials for packaging, protection and assembly of high-current power electronic devices.
"Dow Corning is delighted to take an active role in Europe's largest and most informed network of power electronics innovators," said Eric Peeters, Vice President, Electronics Business at Dow Corning. "Collaborative development toward industry-leading SiC solutions is a major component of our company's DNA, and we look forward to helping ECPE achieve its goals for making Europe a future global leader in the development and supply of advanced power electronics."
