Plastic Logic is proud to announce that the company has been awarded the prestigious FLEXI 2013 R&D Award for the development of a scalable manufacturing process for integrating a colour filter array on a flexible plastic display.
Having already developed and qualified its process for the manufacture of monochrome flexible plastic displays, Plastic Logic then went on to develop a process enabling the manufacture of full colour plastic, unbreakable displays. This achievement has been made possible by a radical new colour filter alignment process, which minimises distortion and enables perfect alignment of the flexible layers. The resulting display exceeds the colour performance of standard EPD-based glass displays, due to the reduced absorption and reflections seen with the plastic colour filter. These flexible plastic colour displays, showing 4096 colours at a resolution of 75 ppi, are now fully commercially available.
This innovative process is of particular significance, since it could enable unbreakable, flexible display solutions with other media such as LCD and OLED.
The FLEXI Awards are presented annually during the FLEX Conference to companies leading the development of the flexible and printed electronics industry with innovative and commercially visible technologies. Sponsored by the FlexTech Alliance, the FLEX R&D Award is presented for demonstrating world-class innovative research, technology development and an original product concept. The award committee also takes into account the potential impact of the work on significant commercial potential for implementation into flexible or printed electronics when considering the nominations.
The FLEXI 2013 R&D Award was presented to Indro Mukerjee , CEO Plastic Logic by Michael Ciesinski , President & CEO of the FlexTech Alliance during the FLEX Conference industry dinner on 31 January 2013 in Phoenix (AZ), USA. Indro Mukerjee stated: "Plastic Logic's innovative process for the manufacturing of high-quality, colour flexible plastic displays is a huge breakthrough and I am delighted that it has received specific recognition from the FlexTech Alliance. The need for unbreakable and flexible electronic systems is the next frontier and our displays are enabling companies to reach that frontier today. Plastic Logic is actively promoting its flexible plastic displays to OEMs and product manufacturers from a wide range of markets, include mobile devices, document replacement solutions, signage, healthcare, sportswear and automotive."
