At Pittcon 2013, Bruker Corporation introduces Assure – Aloe, an NMR-based solution for Aloe Vera quality control. Fully automated, quantitative and qualitative Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) analysis enables Aloe vera material screening in the cosmetics, natural products and pharmaceutical industries.
Aloe vera is currently used for cosmetic, nutritional supplement and medicinal purposes. Given the high demand for this versatile plant, the material identity, and quality and quantity of key components, in both its raw extract form and finished product, have been brought into question. The identity of the material is determinable by the presence of key metabolites, and the freshness of the material is assessable through its degradation products.
Assure™-Aloe performs testing according to a published AOAC protocol, conducting an automated multi-component analysis from a single measurement, and comparing that against Bruker’s Aloe vera Spectral Library, all in about 15 minutes. When coupled with the Spectral Library, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance‘s (NMR) discriminating and directly proportional response makes it the ideal, dedicated solution for Aloe vera Analysis.
Dr. Kim Colson, NMR Business Development Manager at Bruker commented: “Fully automated NMR analysis of a material as complex as Aloe vera is a major step forward in simplifying the quality control of botanical materials used as dietary supplements and herbal medicines. Using this approach will help find unsuitable product and even the unknown unknowns. Assure-Aloe is a customized module based on the Assure-RMS platform.”
