Dofasco Commit $700 Million for Plant Upgrades

Dofasco have just committed approximately $700 million over 5 years to the improvement of the Finishing Division of its core Hamilton steel manufacturing operation. The programme has been initiated to enhance quality, increase shipments, reduce costs and improve customer service.

The first, and most significant stage of the project will begin next year and will cost the company about $384 million.

The investment has been undertaken as part of an Dofasco’s commitment to maintaining their profitable market position and making them more competitive in the global market.

Key areas that will be focussed on include:

  • Coupled and continuous manufacturing
  • Automated processing
  • Streamlining order processing and manufacturing via information technology upgrades

The current project builds on recently completed upgrades that have been implemented to make sure that Dofasco maintain their industry leading status.
