Cytec Receives Certification for Two New Resin Systems to Serve Commercial Marine Sector

Cytec recently extended its Lloyd’s Register Type Approval by adding its flame-retarded VTM®264FRB epoxy and MTM®82S phenolic structural resin systems to a list which includes the company’s MTM®57 and VTM®260 Series epoxy resin systems.

The certification of the two new resin systems means that Cytec is ideally placed to serve the needs of the commercial marine sector, having already proven its value in the challenging competition yacht, and luxury and pleasure craft sectors.

Cytec VTM264FRB is a low temperature moulding epoxy prepreg resin which can be used in conjunction with a combination of E-Glass and carbon fibre reinforcements.

Cytec MTM82S is a medium temperature moulding phenolic prepreg resin which can be used in conjunction with lightweight and heavyweight E-Glass fibre reinforcements.

The performance benefits that advanced composite materials offer have long been recognised in the general marine market, where they have displaced traditional materials such as GRP, timber and metals. In a proportion of the marine market, there is a requirement to meet fire regulations, and this is where both the VTM264FRB and MTM82 resin systems can be utilised to meet current standards.

Cytec’s Industrial Materials segment provides advanced composite and process materials for aerospace, automotive, wind energy, motorsport, marine, mass transportation and other demanding applications. Our focus on technology and application expertise allows customers to adopt more efficient manufacturing approaches. Our product portfolio supports the end-to-end manufacturing of composite parts and includes tooling, fibre, prepregs, resin systems, vacuum bagging, and adhesive, resin and surfacing films.
