Alcan to Close Specialty Chemicals Operation

After consultation with employees and union representatives, Alcan have announced that they will be closing their Burntisland (UK) facility on November 30, 2002.

This action follows on from the announcement in January 2002, in which they decided to withdraw from the European specialty chemicals market. After an unsuccessful attempt to sell the business, the intention to close the plant was made on September 5, 2002.
