TA Instruments today announced the acquisition of Scarabaeus Mess- und Produktionstechnik GmbH, a privately held manufacturer of instrumentation and software for physical property measurements of rubber and rubber processing.
Terry Kelly, President of TA Instruments commented on the acquisition: “This market is a natural fit for TA Instruments. We have existing expertise and a large customer base using thermal analysis and rheology among rubber producers and manufacturers. Combining Scarabaeus products with our global support network will be a substantial benefit to scientists who produce and characterize rubber, polymers, and rubber compounds.”
Key products developed by Scarabaeus include a Mooney Viscometer, Moving Die Rheometer (MDR), Rubber Process Analyzer (RPA), and automated density and hardness testers. Extensive automation and software that excels at tracking product performance over time makes these instruments particularly appropriate for manufacturing and process environments.
The fully-featured RPA also includes many test features and analysis functions that are being used in the latest research and development efforts for rubber and materials technology, making it an equally appropriate match for upstream research laboratories.
Thomas Rauschmann, the founder of Scarabaeus and an innovator in rubber technology further commented, “The rubber industry is global, with manufacturing happening around the world for all major companies. TA Instruments’ worldwide service and support network will enable rubber producers and manufacturers to standardize on our rubber rheometers for uninterrupted productivity.”
