TriMas Corporation – a diversified global manufacturer of engineered and applied products – announced today that Rieke Packaging Systems was recently presented the 2013 Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence in the Five Years Continuous Improvement category. This is the second time Rieke has won an award in this category, totaling 10 years of continuous improvement, and is one of only two companies to receive the award twice.
“As a manufacturer, Rieke strives to reduce waste and emissions to the environment, and continues to engineer solutions to further reduce usage of chemicals and waste to landfills,” said Lynn Brooks, president of Rieke Packaging Systems. “I am exceptionally proud of our employees for earning this award again. It takes hard work and commitment from our employees to achieve this 10-year milestone.”
Over the last 10 years, Rieke has continually focused on the conservation of water, the reduction of kilowatts consumption, the reduction of air emissions and landfill reduction. In 2002, Rieke received ISO 14001 certification and recertified the ISO 14001-2004. In addition to receiving the Governor’s Award in 2008 for Environmental Excellence, Rieke also accepted the Indiana Department of Environmental Management Environmental Stewardship Award in 2009-2012, and its Indiana Environmental Stewardship Program membership was renewed in 2012 through 2015.
The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), in cooperation with the Lieutenant Governor's Office of Energy and Defense Development, the Indiana Department of Administration, and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, sponsor these awards to recognize Indiana's leaders who have implemented outstanding environmental strategies into their operations and decision-making processes.
