Dow Corning, a global leader in silicones, silicon-based technology and innovation arrives at Strategies in Light 2013 with an active program showcasing the breakthrough potential that its award-winning moldable silicones technology offers today’s LED lamp and luminaire designs.
In addition to delivering a key presentation titled How Silicone Enables the Next Generation of Secondary Optics for LED Lighting, Dow Corning will feature its high-performance portfolio of industry-leading optical moldable silicones at Booth B25. Most notably, the company is launching at Strategies in Light its newest addition to the Moldable Silicones family: Dow Corning® MS-2002 Moldable White Reflector Silicone, which targets reflectivity as high as 98 percent to help further boost light output from LED devices, improve overall energy efficiency and prolong device reliability.
“The growing global demand for more innovative, consistently reliable and increasingly efficient LED lighting has set the stage for broader adoption and validation of our award-winning, transparent moldable optical silicone products in innovative new lamp and luminaire designs; and we plan to detail some of these in our presentation at Strategies in Light,” said Hugo da Silva, global industry director, LED Lighting at Dow Corning. “That same industry demand also prompted Dow Corning to continue collaborating closely with customers to extend the valuable design, processing and performance benefits of our moldable silicone technology to include the reflective elements of LED lamp and luminaire applications.”
Dow Corning’s presentation at Strategies in Light will be delivered by da Silva on Nov. 21, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in Room K1 at the M.O.C. Event Center, session number TTS4P3. It will detail how the excellent optical-quality and photo-thermal stability of Dow Corning’s optical-grade transparent moldable silicones allow designers to more effectively shape light, improve efficiency and enhance the reliability of lamp and luminaire secondary designs.
With the launch of Dow Corning MS-2002 Moldable White Reflector Silicone at the show, the company extends the excellent photo-thermal stability and high-moldability that typifies Dow Corning’s moldable silicones family to include the reflective elements of LED lamp and luminaire applications. Like other selections from the product line, Dow Corning MS-2002 Moldable White Reflector Silicone retains excellent optical properties and reliable mechanical performance over the lifetime of an LED lamp or luminaire without yellowing or physical degradation – even after prolonged exposure to temperatures exceeding 150ºC. As the market demands LED sources to deliver more intense light from comparatively smaller package sizes, these qualities are highly desirable for reflective LED materials.
Dow Corning experts will be on hand at its booth to discuss potential benefits and applications for its entire moldable silicone product family, along with its full array of silicone-based LED solutions, including adhesives, pottants, encapsulants, thermal management solutions and optics.
As the market leader in encapsulants for LED packaging, Dow Corning innovates high-performance silicon-based materials for the next generation of lighting designs. Dow Corning Lighting Solutions spans the entire value chain, adding reliability and efficiency for sealing, protecting, adhering, cooling, and shaping light across all lighting applications.
