Hon Hai/Foxconn to Invest $40 Million in Pennsylvania for Advanced Technology Manufacturing Facility

Governor Tom Corbett today announced that Hon Hai/Foxconn, the largest contract electronics manufacturer in the world, plans to invest $40 million in Pennsylvania to establish a high-end technology manufacturing facility, creating 500 jobs and to launch a strategic R&D partnership with Carnegie Mellon University.

"With our skilled workforce and world-class educational institutions, companies from all over the world are looking to tap into Pennsylvania's innovation and talent," said Corbett. "With operations and more than 1.2 million employees throughout the world, Foxconn selected Pennsylvania to grow its North American presence."

Hon Hai/Foxconn plans to invest $30 million to expand its connector and engineering operations that is expected to create 500 jobs over the next two years. The company has not selected a site to date for the expansion.

Additionally, Hon Hai/ Foxconn plans to establish a strategic partnership with Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in Pittsburgh, including the commitment to invest $10 million over a two-year period in joint projects. The collaboration will focus on research and education in the fields of robotics and advanced manufacturing.

"With a long history of innovation and invention, Pennsylvania is once again leading the way through integrating technology into manufacturing," said Corbett. "Without a doubt, the world-renowned reputation of CMU and Pennsylvania's talented and educated workers played a key role in Hon Hai/Foxconn's decision to expand here."

Hon Hai Precision Industry, more commonly known by its trade name, Foxconn, is based in Taiwan and is the world's largest contract electronics manufacturer. The global company's customers include Apple, Cisco, Dell, Nokia and Sony. Foxconn Electronics currently has an operation in Harrisburg with 30 employees.
