WEBINAR: Innovative solutions to improve thermal performance without sacrificing design freedom

To meet ever-stricter energy regulations, designers are faced with compromises and trade-offs affecting building enclosure design. In a free webinar this month, Dow Corning’s Stanley Yee will explain how using specific energy-efficient solutions can improve thermal performance and empower architects with greater design freedom.

The Feb. 26 webinar, “Improving Building Enclosure Thermal Performance and Design Freedom with Innovative High Performance Insulation,” is offered as part of The Construction Specifiers Institute’s (CSI) WebReach program. The presentation will focus on Dow Corning’s newest insulation technologies – aerogel building insulation blanket and vacuum insulation panels (VIP).

Presenter Yee is a LEED® Accredited Professional with specialties including design assistance and support; building enclosure air, water and thermal control; waterproofing; and testing enclosure performance.

“New high-performance insulation technologies enable additional freedom in architectural design,” said Yee, a facade design and construction specialist at Dow Corning. “Knowledge of these new systems can help designers and specifiers meet stringent energy codes without sacrificing design aesthetics.”

The presentation will provide an introduction to key properties of aerogel blanket insulation and vacuum insulation panels, including common construction applications and results of recent thermal modeling and hot-box testing.

It also will include discussion of thermal transmittance, design considerations necessary to achieve lower U-values in curtainwall constructions and use of aerogel blankets to reduce thermal bridging.

Attendees of the Dow Corning-sponsored webinar can earn one AIA CES learning unit or health, safety and welfare (HSW) credit and one professional development hour credit.

The hour-long webinar is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST on Feb. 26. Interested individuals can register or learn more at www.csinet.org/dowcorning.  Attendees must register at least 24 hours prior to the event.
