Expanding its international reach and proximity to Korea and other Asian markets, global technology company Laird today opened a new manufacturing plant near Hanoi – its first in Vietnam -- to better serve manufacturers of smart phones, portable electronics and other devices.
Laird’s state-of-the-art plant in Bac Ninh is one of more than 50 Laird facilities in Asia, Europe and the United States. It began full operations following a festive ceremony led by Laird Chief Executive Officer David Lockwood and attended by employees, regional dignitaries, and journalists.
“This new plant will further strengthen our design and manufacturing capabilities for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), especially those in Korea,” Lockwood said. “It will also complement Laird’s new design center and its newly acquired Model Solution prototype business, both in Seoul, South Korea, and other existing Laird facilities in China and Malaysia.”
Lockwood also said the new plant “underpins Laird’s growth prospects for 2014 and beyond.”
Due to its proximity to Korean OEMs in the Hanoi region, he said the new plant will enable Laird to engage with OEMs more effectively in the design cycle, and help our customers to get their products to market faster.
The Bac Ninh plant will predominantly manufacture precision metals and electronic materials for Laird’s Performance Materials Division, which designs and supplies electromagnetic interference shielding, thermal management solutions, and signal integrity products for the smart phone, transportation, IT/telecoms, medical and consumer industries worldwide.
Laird has more than 9,000 employees worldwide, and has become a global technology leader that provides high-quality components and solutions that protect electronics from electromagnetic interference and heat.
