Berry Plastics Group, Inc. is the proud recipient of a 2014 AmeriStar Award in the Drug and Pharmaceutical category. AmeriStar Awards are presented by the Institute of Packaging Professionals, and was awarded to Berry Plastics for the Company’s role in the development and launch of Target’s pharmacy bottle, ClearRx V2.
“Since its initial launch in 2005, ClearRx has received many accolades including being named the ‘Design of the Decade’ by Industrial Designers Society of America,” said John Vassallo, Berry Plastics’ Director of Product Development, Healthcare. “With several years of collaboration between Target and Berry Plastics, we wanted to take the ClearRx line of pharmacy bottles to the next level. The new bottle design, ClearRx V2, incorporates several improvements, while ensuring that many of the design elements, which gained ClearRx its popularity, remain prominent.”
One such improvement is that the package now employs a one piece squeeze-and-turn closure based on Berry Plastics’ patented Tab-II design, replacing the prior two-piece push-and-turn closure. This new design reduces total package material by 50 percent while maintaining the same high standards of performance. The one-piece closure also allowed Target to reduce SKUs from 32 to 14.
“By working so closely with Target representatives, together we were able to develop a truly impressive product – the design reduces the impact on the environment, meets rigorous performance standards, while providing benefit to the consumer,” added Vassallo.
