Dow Corning, a global leader in silicones, silicon-based technology and innovation, today announced that Dow Corning® ES-5600 Silicone Glycerol Emulsifier won first prize in the SEPAWA Innovation Award 2014 competition at the SEPAWA Congress in Fulda, Germany.
A panel of seven members of the SEPAWA Scientific Advisory Board selected the industry-leading water-in-oil emulsifier, which enables formulators to achieve exceptional performance in polyethylene glycol (PEG)-free systems. The awards ceremony was held at the Esperanto Hotel on Oct. 16. Cindy Delvallé and Kathelyne Everaere, from Dow Corning’s Beauty and Personal Care application engineering and technical service group accepted the award on the company’s behalf.
“Dow Corning ES-5600 Silicone Glycerol Emulsifier addresses beauty care consumers’ steadily growing demand for advanced, new, multifunctional products that help streamline their busy lives,” said Delvallé. “Winning this award illustrates Dow Corning’s unwavering commitment to meeting global formulators’ needs for versatile products that offer a full range of benefits.
“Innovations are the key drivers of growth and competitiveness in our industry,” commented Prof. Klaus Peter Wittern, Ph.D., first president of SEPAWA and member of the jury. “Only by innovating companies can sustain in the global competition. We are thankful that we have companies here at the SEPAWA Congress that face these challenges successfully and enable our members and visitors to meet their formulation requirements for innovative products.”
Dow Corning ES-5600 Silicone Glycerol Emulsifier was developed to meet the needs of modern consumers seeking multifunctional products such as BB and CC creams and high-SPF foundations, which are complex to formulate. The emulsifier offers very broad compatibility, giving formulators the flexibility to combine a wide variety of oil phases with pigments, sunscreen molecules and active ingredients. It enables elegant, lightweight formulations and enhances attractiveness by providing color intensity to foundations and improving the performance of sunscreens.
The Dow Corning product is also a highly effective dispersant for pigments and fine particles, delivering even skin tones and easy application. As a sensory enhancer, the emulsifier provides smooth texture, comfortable wear and low odor. It is formulated using diglycerol components instead of PEG chains, making it appropriate for use in PEG-free as well as standard formulations.
Delvallé presented a paper entitled “New Diglycerol Water-in-Oil Silicone Emulsifier: Dow Corning® ES-5600 Silicone Glycerol Emulsifier” during the SEPAWA Congress.
