3D-printed guitar company Customuse along with Professor Neil Hopkinson from the University of Sheffield embarked on a challenge to design and create one-of-a-kind 3D-printed guitar for UK-based Indie rock band Klaxons to take on their tour.
Customuse is a Sheffield student start-up company with a vision to make customised guitars at reasonable prices, with 3D-printing expert Hopkinson guiding the company in the process.
3D printing is the ultimate technology for the creation of custom-made instruments as it allows complicated designs to be built into a lightweight body and at the same time maintain the required stability to ensure that the guitar worked perfectly.
Customuse was able to provide the rock stars with lead and bass guitars with the band’s own insignia embossed on the instruments. After using the 3D-printed guitars, Klaxons band members stated that the guitars were as remarkable as some of the exceptional milestone guitars of the 80s.
“3D printed [guitars] are about as magical as it gets”- Klaxons guitarist Simon Taylor-Davies.
"When we set up Customuse just a few months ago, we never imagined two of our guitars would be on the road with a band like Klaxons so soon. But having a guitar made to your individual design isn’t just for rock stars. With 3D printing, amazing designs can be created while the price tag remains realistic."
