Dow Corning Introduces New Frizz Control Solution for Water-Based Hair Care Formulations

Dow Corning today unveiled new Dow Corning® CB-3046 Fluid, its latest trends-driven innovation for hair care, here at the 2014 Society of Cosmetic Chemists (SCC) Annual Scientific Meeting and Technology Showcase. The new fluid for water-based hair care formulations provides powerful frizz-taming control without the heavy feel and styling difficulties associated with oil-based anti-frizz solutions.

In addition, the company is previewing a breakthrough silicone developmental fluid scheduled to be launched in the spring of 2015. The product offers a unique rheology, exciting sensory effects and exceptional lubricity, enabling formulators to create products that surprise and delight consumers while still delivering performance.

“We are seeing a rapid increase in the demand for frizz control solutions in various geographies, ethnicities and hair types,” said FeiFei Lin, North America Hair Care market leader at Dow Corning. “Our new Dow Corning CB-3046 Fluid meets this demand, while offering numerous other benefits as well. This product, along with our forthcoming developmental fluid, demonstrates Dow Corning’s drive to continually innovate to meet market needs.”

Dow Corning CB-3046 Fluid enables customers to formulate water-based leave-in frizz control products that surpass the performance of competitive water-based and traditional anhydrous offerings without the undesirable heavy, greasy feel and the styling difficulties associated with them, regardless of hair type. In fact, it enhances hair alignment for sleek styles and curl definition for full, wavy hair styles. It also noticeably increases shine and provides excellent protection against heat.

Testing using the Frizz Index, a new method announced at last year’s SCC Showcase and developed by Dow Corning to test frizz control, showed CB-3046 Fluid provided superior frizz control at high humidity levels compared to competitive solutions available today. Additional tests measuring stylability after application showed Dow Corning’s new product demonstrated better traction with a hair clip than alternative materials.

Dow Corning CB-3046 Fluid supports the formulation of water-based leave-in frizz control products such as dual-phase sprays, and can also be used in anhydrous serums. This versatile technology allows for cold processing and enables clear formulations if desired. The new material is listed in the Catalogue of Cosmetics Ingredients Used in China.

Attendees at the 2014 SCC Showcase can view concept formulations at the Dow Corning table and order product samples for Dow Corning CB-3046 Fluid. They can also get an exclusive sneak peek at formulations containing the exciting new silicone fluid slated for launch in the spring of 2015. This breakthrough technology, with potential applications in skin care and hair care, offers extended playtime vs. conventional fluids and promises to provide an exceptional sensory experience that is soft and smooth but not tacky.
