Testing Automotive Terminal Strength

Developed specifically for the automotive manufacturing industry, materials testing specialist, Lloyd Instruments, has developed a sample grip to test the solder strength of terminal welds on power steering pump motors.

The terminal weld pull off fixture fits onto any Lloyd Instruments’ test machine and is designed to reduce the time taken to test complex electronic terminal arrays incorporated in power steering motors.

The fixture consists of a base plate and sample-clamping ring that rotates to test each terminal in turn. The upper section acts like a mechanical finger to grip the terminal end firmly, up to a maximum 1 kN force.

The materials testing software, NEXYGENPlus, which is supplied with the materials testing machines from Lloyd Instruments, features a library of pre-programmed test set-ups, multi-level user security and data audit trails for traceability. The NEXYGENPlus software interacts with Excel and Word, offering its users to automatically transfer test results directly into own corporate templates.

Also available in the range of specially designed test equipment for the automotive industry is a motor can pull off fixture used to test the tensile strength of sealing welds on the outer castings of power steering pump motors.
