POSCO has brought the production of the world's best Plate Cold Leveller to the home front.
Taechang Machinery Industry Co., Ltd. (President Byeong-Deok Yu), a mid-sized Korean company, succeeded in developing a plate cold leveller that has the greatest rolling force created to date and has been recognized for its advanced technology throughout the world.
This achievement is the outcome of a joint development project between POSCO and a mid-sized company and is acknowledged as a success case of co-existing management.
Plate cold levellers level the flatness of plates in cold states in the process of plate production and are an important device that improves the overall quality of steel plates.
Plate cold levellers have been manufactured and exported generally by Japan and Germany. Thanks to POSCO's joint project with Taechang Machinery Industry Co., Ltd., all structural quality problems of high-quality plates, including API, have now been solved, and a win-win strategy with a mid-sized company has been achieved.
The new leveller has been performing well at Plate Mill II in Pohang Works since November. The new leveler has a rolling force of 5,400 tons. Currently, only one other company, a Japanese company, manufactures levellers with a rolling force of 5,000 tons or higher.
Taechang Machinery Industry Co., Ltd. has shortened its manufacture period by three months, greatly contributing to POSCO's high-quality steel production, including that of TMCP, and to the reduction of investment costs in devices, thanks to this successful project.
POSCO is planning to further its 'Cooperative Processes with Small- and Mid-sized Companies' and will actively support the localization of equipment and various small- and mid-sized companies in Korea.
