Adhesion performance between silicone elastomers and specific thermoplastics can now be improved with a self-bonding family of Silopren liquid silicone rubber.
The Silopren LSR 27x9 liquid silicone rubber family will be launched by Momentive Performance Materials Inc. (Momentive) at K 2016, the 20th International Trade Fair for Rubber and Plastics. This new self-bonding material is capable of addressing the growing demands for hard-soft designs, and decreasing assembly steps. It also enables attaining the bonding between silicone and thermoplastics, and fulfills several complex design requirements.
Industrial, automotive, medical device and consumer electronics manufacturers explore improved adhesion technology between silicone elastomers and specific engineering plastics including co-polyesters, polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) and polycarbonate (PC) in order to enhance performance characteristics such as functionality, durability, protection and waterproofing.
The new self-bonding LSR technology developed by Momentive provides a primerless solution that helps to blend two materials through a two-shot over-molding process in order to obtain a hard-soft design and also a cost-effective manufacturing process of high part-quantities in a single integrated molding process.
Surface treatment on the substrates is not needed for Silopren LSR 27x9 liquid silicone rubber, which provides short cycle times and a single step curing that will result in enhancing design freedom and productivity.
Momentive continues to lead the market in developing silicone elastomer solutions that enable design complexity and manufacturing efficiency. Our newest offering advances adhesion technology for molded parts that have been previously unavailable in the market.
