Porvair Sciences has confirmed that 2016 will see record sales of its Ultravap and Minivap ranges of blowdown evaporators to laboratories worldwide.
The company first began selling nitrogen blowdown evaporators for microplate sample drying in 1999. Offering unmatched ease of integration into robotic liquid handling workflows, the latest Porvair microprocessor controlled evaporators, the Ultravap Mistral and Ultravap Levante, has consolidated their position as a leading international supplier of microplate evaporators.
With a choice of 24, 48, 96 or 384 well evaporation heads, the Ultravap series can be configured for most common evaporation tasks in LC/MS analysis.
Porvair evaporators can also be used to speed up evaporation of common HPLC solvents such as dichloromethane, methanol and acetonitrile from sample vials.
The ability to integrate a robot-ready evaporator into the sample preparation workflow has significant advantages in biological sample analysis by LC/MS. By removing the evaporation bottleneck, the laboratory workflow can be fully automated on popular robotic liquid handling platforms such as those from Tecan, Beckman, Hamilton, Agilent and Perkin Elmer. We are seeing more and more customers who want to take advantage of the Ultravap “plug-and-play” capability with popular laboratory robots and this is driving our sales growth in this area.
Steve Knight, Marketing Director
Using a specialist 48-well needle head with a dedicated HPLC vial holder that accepts 48 standard 1.5ml vials transforms any Minivap or Ultravap into a high throughput HPLC sample evaporator.
Applications that benefit from this capability include pre-concentration prior to injection (to increase sensitivity) as well as evaporation to dryness of post-column fractions for recovery of compounds.
