Rolls-Royce Wins $73 Million USAF Contract

Rolls-Royce has signed a $73 million contract to support the propulsion system on U.S. Air Force transport planes, the fourth such engine services agreement in recent months.

Under the new contract, Rolls-Royce will provide comprehensive services for AE 2100D3 engines on C-130J aircraft located at up to seven bases. The aircraft are operated by the U.S. Air Force Reserve, Air Education Training Command and Special Operations Command, as well as the Air National Guard. Under the one-year contract, Rolls-Royce will provide the USAF with total propulsion system maintenance and support, covering the Rolls-Royce engines and the Dowty R-391 propeller system. Also included in the agreement is establishment of an engine and propeller Inventory Control Point in Indianapolis, which became operational on 1 February, providing material support to the U.S. Air Force.

The C-130 has been the USAF's primary tactical transport and special mission aircraft since 1956, powered by Rolls-Royce T56 engines. The latest version of the aircraft, which is powered by AE 2100D3 engines, continues that legacy.

Other recent contracts signed by Rolls-Royce include engine services on aircraft operated by the U.S. Coast Guard under the Department of Homeland Security and three agreements with international defense partners. Rolls-Royce now provides engine services for the United States Air Force, Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard.
