Python Software Engineer- Instrument Control

Headquartered in Thun, Switzerland, TOFWERK aims to bring the advantages of our time-of-flight mass spectrometry technology to new markets and applications. With team members in Switzerland, Germany, China and the United States, we offer custom instrumentation for research laboratories and OEM partners and high performance end-user instruments.

TOFWERK is seeking a software engineer to work on instrument control and data handling software for our time-of-flight mass spectrometers. The successful applicant will work in our Research and Development Department (R&D) and support the control of instruments. The software engineer will be tasked with developing software that improves the user experience and increases the quality of analyses. As one of the company’s experts on software customization, he/she will adapt TOFWERK technology for the needs of prospective customers. He/she will work with members of the R&D Department to ensure that all new instruments at TOFWERK utilize the best available methods and technology. Based on his/her knowledge of the field and use of TOFWERK technology, the software engineer will provide suggestions and feedback to the R&D Department regarding potential short- and long-term product improvements and developments.

Requirements

  • Python (3 years+ experience)
  • Experience in software development for instrument control (hardware)
  • Interest in collaborating with non-software R&D staff and product teams
  • Ability to support R&D in a timely and patient manner  
  • Fluency in English
  • Independent, well-structured, and goal-oriented

Desirable Experience and Expertise

  • Software development experience for embedded systems
  • Basic proficiency in German
  • C/C++
  • C#
  • Web technologies (HTML, JS, CSS)
