Corus Try to Fast Track Sale of Their Aluminium Business

Following a poor year in 2002 and an aborted merger with Brazilian steel maker CSN, Corus are trying to fast track the sale of their aluminium business to Pechiney.

The sale which was announced back on October 24 has still not been finalised. It involves plants in Germany and Holland and is being opposed by Dutch trade unions.

With poor operating performances in the last 12 months, Corus is under pressure from banks to offload the aluminium business to assist with the renewal of a £1.2 billion loan.
