Symyx Technologies and 3D Systems Discover and Commercialize Advanced Materials

Symyx Technologies, Inc. announced today an agreement with 3D Systems (Nasdaq: TDSC) to discover and commercialize advanced materials with improved properties and performance for use in 3D Systems’ rapid prototyping and rapid manufacturing solutions.

Rapid prototyping and manufacturing are used to produce concept models and end-use parts as an efficient, cost-effective means of evaluating product designs and building components from digital images.

Under the agreement, Symyx will apply its high-throughput research technologies to discover novel polymers. 3D Systems will cover the cost of this research and have exclusive rights to commercialize the discovered materials within specified fields. Upon commercialization, depending on the nature of the final product(s), Symyx will receive royalties or share in the profits.
