GE to Acquire Organosilicones Business

GE have entered into an agreement to acquire OSi Specialties, the organosilicones business of Compton Corp, via their business unit GE Specialty Materials. Compton will receive US$645 million in cash and GE’s Specialty Chemicals business, as well as quarterly earn-out payments based on performance of GE Silicones. The transaction is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2003.

When complete Osi will become part of GE Silicones, part of GE Specialty Materials. Osi will bring to GE a range or organofunctional silanes which GE does not currently supply.

Silanes are used as coupling agents for coatings, adhesives, sealants, thermoplastics and fiberglass.
