Lead Paint, The New Asbestos?

Could lead-cased paint become the new asbestos? With litigation against companies that used to manufacture lead-based paints or companies that absorbed companies that once manufactured lead-based paints on the increase, it is certainly a possibility.

Thus far, nine publicly traded companies have had legal action brought against them, all of which have been unsuccessful to date.

Lead-based paints were banned in the USA in 1978, after it was found that flaking paint or dust from lead-based paints could be harmful to those who ingested or breathed it. Children under the age of six are most at risk due to the rapid rate of neurological and physical development they are undergoing. However, overexposure to lead is not uncommon and is a leading cause of workplace illness.

Lawsuits are being brought about by people who’s children have suffered the effects of lead poisoning, or adults who were exposed to lead-based paints as children.
