Established in response to business and academic demand, NAMTEC aims to increase the global competitiveness of the UK's metals sector by stimulating high technology innovation, research and development.
With a remit that encompasses every metal, every sector and every application, NAMTEC aims to be a flagship organisation, bringing value to the metals industry by a combination of knowledge sharing, technology transfer and focussing of research and technology activity.
NAMTEC will assist local industry by:
- Technical Support – including telephone helplines and liasing with industry and academia to solve problems
- Information – a range of information from industry related news to databases providing informatiojn on applications, properties and processing technologies Displayed on front
- Project Management - a team of project management specialists are able to identify funding opportunities and partners, co?ordinate funding bids and manage secured projects.
NAMTEC will also provide a focal point for the UK metals industry following the demise of bodies such as British Iron and Steel Research Association and British Non-Ferrous Metals Research Association.
NAMTEC’s initial funding comes from DTI, Yorkshire Forward and Objective 1. This funding lasts for three years, after which time they intend to be self funding. As a non-profit making company, any income generated from fees will be made available to the metals industry, in the form of grants, to fund product and business development.
