ThyssenKrupp Takes on 104 Trainees and Apprentices

As the new training year begins, 104 young people are starting an apprenticeship at ThyssenKrupp Stainless, taking the company's apprentice training rate to 6.1%. Subsidiary ThyssenKrupp Nirosta is training 80 new apprentices at four plants, while a further 22 young people are getting a first foot on the career ladder at ThyssenKrupp VDM. For the first time, ThyssenKrupp Stainless AG in Duisburg will also be training two industrial clerks. In total, ThyssenKrupp Stainless has 374 apprentices.

ThyssenKrupp Stainless offers a choice of nine different industrial/technical occupations, while commercial apprentices can choose from five career paths. "ThyssenKrupp Stainless offers its apprentices first-rate training and attractive career opportunities," says Klaus-Peter Hennig from the ThyssenKrupp Stainless AG Executive Board: "We see this commitment and high quality as part of our social responsibility toward young people."

For this reason, the successful "initial training" program for young people as part of German industry's "training pact" is now entering its third year: young people who are still without an apprenticeship after September 1 can enroll on a one-year practical course to learn the skills needed for an apprenticeship place. To date, Stainless has offered placements to more than 40 youngsters. Around 70 percent of them were subsequently accepted onto normal apprenticeship training courses.
