Australian magnesium producer Magnesium International has received an expression of interest from a Japanese magnesium sheet consumer to purchase significant amounts of magnesium sheet.
The sheet is currently being produced by MagSheet, a joint venture between Magnesium International and CSIRO. The unnamed Japanese company has performed extensive testing on the material which satisfy its requirements. They are looking at establishing a long term supply arrangement and may be interested in purchasing the entire production for the next 12 months. The deal is subject to price, supply and quality stipulations.
MagSheet is targeting production of 3 tonnes per month by the end of phase 1, which incorporates the next 12 months. Following that, they hope to be producing up to 30 tons per month in 2004/5, at which time the Japanese company would look at increased purchase volumes.
The Japanese company interested in buying the magnesium sheet produced products for the building, electronics and automotive industries.
