Nisshin Steel to Quadruple Chinese Capacity

It was reported in the Japanese paper Nihon Keizai Shimbun that Nisshin Steel would be quadrupling it stainless steel production from its Chinese plant, bringing capacity to 600,000 tons per annum, by 2005.

Nisshin Steel who produces stainless steel in China in a joint venture with local companies like Shanghai Baosteel would spend $510 million on the expansion project.

The expansion project would involve increasing capacity at the existing plant from 160,000 tons to 240,000 tons and building another mill next to the existing one, to bring total capacity to 600,000 tons. Works were reported to be starting before the end of the year.
