Shell Commission new Polyols Plant

Shell Chemicals announced that their new polyols plant in Pernis, in the Netherlands came online in May and will be shipping their first batch of commercial product in coming months.

The plant, one of the largest of its type in Europe, has a capacity of 50,000 tons per annum of styrene acrylonitrile (SAN). The demand for SAN is increasing, with key applications in the furniture, bedding and automotive fields.

Following the commissioning of the new plant, Shell will decommission an older 12,000 tons per year plant, also located in Pernis. Customers supplied with materials from the old plant will be supplied with materials form the new plant.
