Cree Purchase SiC Patents from ABB

Cree Inc., specialist semiconductor manufacturers have purchased a portfolio of patents from ABB.

The portfolio of 44 US patents cover silicon carbide technologies for semiconductor and power device applications and range from epitaxial growth technology to device and circuit-level technology.

ABB sold the patents as part of their strategy of divesting non-core businesses, and felt that Cree were in a stronger position to advance and mature the research.
