Borouge and Borealis Sign Responsible Care Global Charter

Borouge, leading providers of innovative, value creating plastics’ solutions, signed the Responsible Care® Global Charter at the inaugural Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA) Forum in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on December 17, 2006. Signed together with Borealis, this joint action demonstrates an ongoing commitment to further their leadership positions in health, safety and environmental (HSE) management and advancing product stewardship and sustainable development.

This is the first time two leading companies in the Middle East and Europe are partnering to advance Responsible Care in their respective markets and further demonstrates the increasing cooperation between the two companies. This is also the first time that a company in the Gulf Region is committing to the Charter.

"Borouge is proud to be the first company in the Gulf Region to be a signatory of the Responsible Care Global Charter," says Harri Bucht, CEO, Abu Dhabi Polymers Company (Borouge). "We aim to be the leader in health, safety and environment and the signature of this Charter with Borealis provides further momentum in achieving this goal. Our production and marketing operations are fully committed to improving product stewardship and furthering our sustainable development initiatives." Borouge was recently ISO 14001 certified in November 2006.

"The Charter principles and commitments are intrinsic to Borouge and Borealis' value creation through innovation strategy and our continuous drive for operational excellence," said John Taylor, Deputy Chairman of the Borouge Board of Directors and CEO Borealis, speaking at the GPCA Forum.

Hubert Puchner, Chief Executive of the Borouge Marketing Company added: "The Charter also enables us to further improve our product stewardship processes. As a priority, we will drive a joint strategy with Borealis to enhance the contribution that innovative solutions make to the sustainable development of the value chain and society."

Launched by the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA) in January 2006, the Responsible Care Global Charter is a voluntary initiative which aims to improve industry-wide performance in the areas of health, safety and environment, product stewardship and advanced sustainability.
