JFE Steel to Establish Galvanising JV in China

JFE Steel and Guangzhou Iron and Steel Enterprises Holdings have agreed to set up a joint venture that will produce and market hot dipped galvanised steel sheets for the automotive industry.

The facility will be located in the Nansha Development Zone in the Guangzhou Province of China and is aimed at supplying steel for China’s automotive industry as well as for electric appliances and construction applications.

The joint venture will be known as the Guangzhou JFE Steel Sheet Company and will be owned 51% by JFE Steel and 49% by Guangzhou Iron and Steel Enterprises Holdings. The two organisations hope to conclude establishment negotiations by the end of October 2003, and hope to be in operation by April 2006.
