New Family of Glasses Commercialised by Containerless Research Inc

Containerless Research Inc. have patented a new family of glasses and the technology for producing them.

The new glasses are called REAl glasses. The name stemming form their composition which includes rare earth oxides and aluminium oxides, along with small amounts of silicon dioxide.

The glasses, which are now being produced in commercial quantities have unique properties and a range of commercial applications such as lasers, optical communications and surgical lasers.

REAl glass was developed with the assistance of the NASA levitator facility, in which molten spheres of the glass were evaluated in the Electrostatic Levitator.
