Nova Chemicals to Shut Canadian LLDPE Plant

Nova Chemicals have announced that they will shut down their 275 million pounds per year liner low density polyethylene plant in Ontario, Canada. The shutdown is expected to become effective during the second quarter of 2004.

The plant was built in 1960 and was the world’s first liner low density polyethylene plant. Since then it has become the companies smallest and highest cost polyethylene plant.

The Ontario plant currently supplies 8% of Nova Chemical capacity. 80% of the profitable materials production from this plant will be transferred to other Nova plants. The transfer of production will result in higher production rates and lower production costs at these plants.
