Clariant Sell Cellulose Ether Business to Shin-Etsu

Swiss-based Clariant have sold their Cellulose Ethers business unit to Shin-Etsu Chemical Co. for 241 million Euro as part of their transformation programme. The sale is yet to be approved by regulating bodies.

The cellulose Ethers business is based in Weisbaden, Germany and generated sales worth 187 million Euro in 2002. Products from the business are sold into the construction materials and coatings industries.

The acquisition strengthens Shin-Etsu’s existing cellulose ether business, and they intend to grow the business.
