Corus to Sell Aluminium Businesses

Following on a poor performance and a loss of EUR 622 million for the Corus Group in 2001, they have decided to decided to divest their aluminium operations.

Corus is the fifth largest global producer of downstream aluminium rolled and extrusion products. Sales from aluminium divisions account for 14% of Corus sales. Corus’ aluminium operations consist of three businesses:

  • Corus Primary Aluminium – Consists of 2 smelters in The Netherlands and Germany producing about 250,000tpa. They also hold a 20% stake in the Sept Iles plant in Canada.
  • Corus Aluminium Rolled Produts – Consists of operations in Germany and Belgium, as well as a 60% stake in Corus LP in Canada.
  • Corus Aluminium Extrusions – Consists of 2 plants in Germany and another ion Belgium as well as a 61% share in an operation in China.
