Sasol and Mitsubishi Chemical Corp have just commissioned Sasol Dia Acrylates joint venture of which they both own a 50% share. Sasol Dia Acrylates is an acrylic acid and acrylates complex plant located in Sasolburg in South Africa.
They plan to start exporting product in the second quarter of 2004, although full production will not be reached until mid 2005. The plant will have capacity to produce 80,000 tons of crude acrylic acid and 15,000 tons of acrylic acid derivatives per year
The plant benefits from Mitsubishi’s proprietary technology and their marketing network.
Acrylic acids and acrylates are used to make water based paints, adhesives and textiles. Acrylates are commonly used as raw materials in the mining, coating, chemical fibre, spinning and weaving, adhesive, leather tanning, paper, and oil and detergent industries.
