Bridgestone Push into Semiconductor Market

Known mainly for their tyres and rubber products Bridgestone have announced plans to enter into the semiconductor wafer business.

This announcement comes on the back of their strategy of strengthening their non-core or non-tyre businesses.

They intend to start shipping silicon carbide wafer samples in 2004 and hope to be producing more than 10,000 wafers per month, generating annual sales in excess of 10 billion Yen by 2010.
