AMS Technologies announces DiodeGuardTM from VueMetrix Inc., a new approach to in-series diode laser protection. For the first time, diode lasers operated in series are protected against cascade failure with DiodeGuard's innovative circuitry design, in the event that one or more diodes fail.

Cascade failure of a series of diodes most commonly occurs when a diode in the series shorts, causing an instantaneous drop in the forward bias voltage of the string of diodes. With a switched mode power supply, this instantaneous drop in voltage results in a current surge that can cause catastrophic destruction of the remaining diodes. DiodeGuard is designed to prevent these incidents from affecting the entire diode string. It protects against system down-time, offering customers the ability to reduce the overall cost of ownership.

For companies building fiber lasers and direct diode material processing systems, this is a big step forward in improving their overall system reliability.

Now available exclusively with the new Vue-MV-21 laser diode controller, VueMetrix plans to offer DiodeGuard for additional Vue Series models in the near future.
