Founded in 1966, BigHead Bonding Fasteners Limited originated the perforated-head metal fasteners - BigHeads - that form the uniquely versatile fastening system invented by the Company’s founder and managing director, Ken Stanley. Many of the current range of 2000 ‘standard’ BigHeads started life as specials, or prototypes, requested by our customers; as a result the range is constantly expanding and evolving.
Every day, BigHeads solve fastening problems in all kinds of industries and applications, for thousands of worldwide customers. We also design and make specials to specific customer requirements, and supply R & D prototype samples - FREE OF CHARGE and without obligation. The complete range of BigHead fasteners are now available as CAD files and .pdf files on a FREE CD ROM.
BigHeads were originally designed for the plastics moulding industry. Their perforated design allows plastics or adhesives to flow through their thin, mild steel or 316S11 stainless steel heads, locking them FOR LIFE into virtually any plastic product, regardless of the moulding process and efficiently spreading the applied dynamic loads.
More recently, engineers and designers in other basic industries realised the sheer versatility of the concept. BigHeads can (and are) surface-mounted on to virtually any material - metal, wood, brick, composites or laminates – using modern, high-tech adhesives or orthodox rivets, screws or spot welds. No expensive drilling, filling or "making good" is ever needed, and labour costs are reduced to a minimum.
To underline BigHead’s versatility you’ll find them in:
- Boats
- Cars
- Truck canopies/cabs
- Computer consoles
- Aircraft
- Yachts & superyachts
- Surfboards
- Tanks & containers
- Wind farms
- Signs
- Chairs & furniture
- Construction
- Robots
- and countless other products.
From the Mirabelle V superyacht and Bentley Continental right down to the smallest industrial moulding, Bigheads make it possible to specify discreet, high-strength and technically advanced fixing methods that save time and money during manufacture.
BigHeads get rid of unsightly fixing holes and 'making good' in otherwise blemish-free surfaces, often unavoidable with conventional fasteners. They’re rarely visible in use, though; as a result, many designers are unaware of their high performance and cost-saving potential.
BigHeads bond readily into polyurethane and GRP. They are encased by injection moulding, hand lay-up, rotational moulding, etc., and can be bonded onto many surfaces with conventional adhesives. The perforated plate also permits POP rivet assembly. To keep the polyester resin off the threads when laying up BigHeads in GRP, all male threaded fasteners come with polythene thread-masking sleeves. Threaded female versions (blind or open) are supplied with self-adhesive masking dots.
The entire range of BigHead fasteners is designed and produced at the company’s Bournemouth headquarters and factory. We enjoy an enviable reputation for the range and quality of our products, as well as our matchless service – we’re proud of the fact that 98% of all orders are despatched on the day they are received. BigHeads help make existing products better and new ones possible.
